Josh is not accepting new PhD students for fall 2027 entry.
In years when he is recruiting, Josh accepts PhD students through Harvard University’s Psychology PhD program. Interested students should apply and list him as their supervisor. See the program page for full details on admissions and requirements.
The lab regularly welcomes postdoctoral researchers, full-time research assistants, and visiting affiliates. All future openings will be posted on this website.

PSY 2650R
Harvard undergraduates join the lab through this course, working as research assistants for course credit. Each student pairs with a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow on an original question about how culture, technology, and the mind shape one another, using methods such as experiments, cross-cultural surveys, natural language processing, archival data, or computer simulations. Weekly lab meetings follow an idea from first sketch through to publication.
Harvard undergraduates hoping to write a senior thesis with the lab should tell us by January 15 of their junior year. Places are limited. Most years bring more requests than the lab can advise, so we are not able to say yes to everyone.
You can email Josh directly to indicate what you would like to study, and you are welcome to arrange a meeting with him to discuss the possibility of conducting your thesis in the lab. Preference will be given to students already working in the lab as research assistants.
